Flight Socks
Back in 2003 I emerged from the plane at Heathrow with feet and legs that looked like those of an elephant! I had never been affected so badly before, but 23 hours flying time, with only a 2 hour break in Singapore, had worked its wonders on me. And despite lots of walking, fluid tablets and sleeping with my feet up on two pillows, my cankles did not disappear for over a week. Now I do not fail to wear flight socks – like knee high stockings but in a very tight, firm weave. And no matter what, I do not remove my shoes during flight in case I cannot get them back on again! I also used to wear ankle boots as they provided extra constriction, but the hassle of taking them off for security scanning in some countries (USA especially) convinced me to stop.
